Estonian Language and Culture in the Media Space (B1 level)

10.03.26 - 16.30

National Library of Estonia

18.02.2026

Would you like to be an informed consumer of information rather than just a browser of headlines? Would you like to learn how to distinguish facts from opinions, recognize hidden methods of influence, and express your thoughts clearly and convincingly? Join a free Estonian language class designed for learners who already speak and understand Estonian.

A seminar on Estonian language and media culture will take place on March 10 from 16:30 to 18:30 at the National Library of Estonia. Admission is free, but prior registration is required.

Knowledge of Estonian is not merely a means of communication – it is the key to conscious and critical media consumption. Strong language skills enable you to understand texts and media coverage in depth, analyze the real content of messages and assess the reliability of information. When you master the language, you can see beyond the message, notice nuances, hidden meanings and strategies of influence.

In the digital age, where information is more abundant than ever, correct language use and critical thinking are your competitive advantage. These skills help you to make informed and well-argued decisions; stand out in work and study environments; build trust through your messages; and participate more confidently and effectively in public discussions.

During the class, we will listen, read and work in groups to develop our language skills. Together we will learn new words and expressions and analyse texts. Language learners with B1-level proficiency are welcome to attend this seminar.

The seminar will be led by integration and cohesion specialist Victoria Punga, who has more than 15 years of experience in these fields. She holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Tallinn University.

The number of places is limited, so please register your participation here. Registration is open until March 8.
