Media and digital literacy

For more than five years, the Estonian National Library has been collecting literature on disinformation and information manipulation and disseminating research and analyses. In addition, library specialists conduct thematic lessons, providing real-life examples of fake news and sharing tips on how to critically assess media content. Library staff also assist teachers in searching for information on digital and media literacy.

The role of libraries in preventing the spread of disinformation and misinformation is crucial and necessary, because libraries can help evidence-based information reach the public and are always a reliable source of valuable information.

During the project:

We provide tips and guidelines on how to avoid falling victim to fraud and manipulation.

We teach how to use digital tools that can help you succeed in the digital world.

We raise awareness of the opportunities of artificial intelligence as well as its threats in creating misinformation.

About the project

MeediaRadar supports informed and safe engagement with the media environment by providing practical knowledge and tools to adults who speak other languages. Our goal is to give people the confidence to ask questions, analyse, and form their own opinions. Smart media consumption begins with awareness.

MeediRadar takes place from 2024 to 2028 in cooperation with National Library of Estonia and Ministry of Culture of Estonia. The project has been co-financed by the Swiss Confederation to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Union.
