Our brains evolved in a world with a limited amount of information: how to recognize a predator by sounds in the thicket, where to find the best apples, what to say to a boy you like. It is striking to think that even books, newspapers, and magazines became accessible to the majority only about a century ago. It is therefore no surprise that today we are drowning in a constant stream of news and are not always able to distinguish what matters from what does not, or truth from falsehood.
We invite you to join a media café with journalist and communications specialist Julia Tisler on 21 March at 14:00. Admission is free.
The bad news is that it is impossible to shut information out completely. The good news is that it is possible to learn how to work with it. Over the years, Yulia has learned how to identify what truly matters in the flow of news, press releases, posts, and videos. She will explain how to filter the news stream more consciously and how to improve the quality of information around you.
Programme:
14:00–15:00 Overview of Estonian media outlets and journalistic publications
15:00–15:30 Coffee break
15:30–16:30 Practical workshop: how to create a news story yourself. You will also learn how to find and verify reliable information.
Pre-registration is required: 5851 2424.
The event will be held in Russian.
