The lecture explores how myths, fears, and conspiracy theories emerged and spread during the pandemic. We will discuss the role of media and social media, as well as how to approach health information critically.
The event will be led by Anastasiya Astapova, Professor of Folkloristics at the University of Tartu, whose research brings together folklore, humour, and the social sciences. Anastasiya is the recipient of Estonia’s annual folklore award (2023), has participated in a number of international research projects, and was awarded a Stanford University fellowship in security and international relations (2024).
