16:00–16:45 Part I: How is a news story structured and where do news angles come from?
We will look at what makes a news story and how it differs from a fact or an opinion; examine the main news formats and the structure of a news item; discuss where news angles come from and how to distinguish reliable information from fake news; and develop ideas for news topics.

17:15–18:00 Part II: Writing a news story: from draft to finished text
We will discuss the stages of creating a news story: how to gather information, what questions to ask, how to structure information logically, how to work with quotes and figures, what characterises news language, and how to edit a text effectively.
Tatjana Gassova has worked in various roles within Estonian Public Broadcasting (Eesti Rahvusringhääling) for 16 years. Since 2020, she has been Head of the Russian-language Radio News Editorial Team, whose programmes are broadcast on Radio 4, and since 2022 she has also served as Editor-in-Chief of the rus.err.ee portal. She is actively involved in media literacy projects and regularly leads workshops for teachers, social workers, and young people. She is the host of the programme Interview of the Week on ETV+, co-author of the programme series Home on ETV+, curator of the Summer School of Journalism on rus.err.ee, and a producer-editor and reporter for Aktuaalne kaamera+ on ETV+.
