Artificial intelligence has already transformed the information environment: texts, images, videos and audio recordings are becoming increasingly easy to create, manipulate and distribute on a large scale. In this context, fact-checking is no less important than before \u2013 and may, in fact, be more important than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the lecture, we will discuss how the work of journalists and fact-checkers is changing in the age of generative AI, what new risks this creates for audiences, why artificial intelligence cannot simply replace human fact-checking, and in which situations it can instead serve as a useful tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme will include real-life examples of AI-related disinformation, manipulation and errors, as well as practical approaches to verifying information. We will look at how to assess the reliability of a source, distinguish facts from interpretation, recognise emotional manipulation, identify warning signs that should make a reader cautious, and use basic tools for independent fact-checking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lecture will also provide an insight into how professional fact-checking works, drawing on the experience of Provereno Media and international practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ilya Ber<\/strong> is a journalist, fact-checker and media literacy expert with more than 20 years of experience in journalism. He has worked as an editor on television projects and for the BBC Russian Service. He currently works at Delfi.
